Russian Easter Eggs
The name Faberge is recognized among collectors of fine examples of the jeweler’s craft throughout the world. Peter Carl Faberge created jewelry for most of Europe’s nobility, but is most noted for his fantasy pieces, including a series of Easter eggs made for the Russian Imperial family.
Made from gem-stones, gold, and enamels, the eggs were intricate, elaborate, and unique. Some contained mechanical elements to activate the scenes concealed within.
The Russian Revolution put Faberge and his clients out of business; Faberge at least managed to escape with his life. His work live on in the collections of many fine museums and a few fortunate individuals.
